**This project is from a spring 2015 course. To learn about ongoing student coverage of Hamden and New Haven, visit HQ Press or follow Amy Walker on Twitter.**
We are journalism students at Quinnipiac University learning how to cover public affairs in various communities.
Not far from Quinnipiac is Dixwell Avenue – a road that runs from the town of Hamden to the city of New Haven in southern Connecticut. Along this avenue are diverse communities made up of varying incomes, races, and religions.
On the first day of class our professor, Amy Walker, shared a map that showed the sharp division of races in the area. We decided to spend the semester looking into what other disparities existed along the road that connects Hamden's town hall and New Haven's Apple store.
